You May Be A United States Citizen 

   Have you filed an application for United States citizenship?

   Has your address changed since you filed the application?

   If the answer is Yes, you must notify the Immigration and Naturalization Service of your new address?  Call INS on 1 800 375-5283. Also, you can report address changes on USCIS's site.. Promptly reporting address changes should expedite the application.

    It is possible to acquire United States citizenship by birth in a foreign country. One or both your parents need to be a United States citizen

    I always ask where your mother and father were born.  Also, I ask where your grandparents were born.

    Another way to become a United States citizen is if a parent naturalizes and their child is under 18 years of age.

    Persons born in the Philippines and United States Virgin Islands may be United States citizens in certain circumstances.

    It is also possible to lose United States citizenship.   If you acquire citizenship in another country such as Canada, you may lose your United States citizenship.   You should write the United States Consulate and explain what you are doing and state you do not intend to lose your United States Citizenship.             If you are thinking of giving up your United States citizenship for tax purposes, be careful. You may never be able to come back into the United States and you may be subject to a ten (10) year tax penalty.

    It is possible to be a citizen of more than one country. Italy and Germany do not permit it, but there is a movement to change the law.

    If you are thinking of giving up your United States Citizenship for Tax purposes, be careful.  You may never be able to come into the United States and You may be subject to a 10 year tax penalty.

    It is possible to go from Legal Permanent Resident to United States citizen without waiting for three or five years.  You need to be out of the United States Your United States citizen spouse needs to work for a firm engaged in foreign trade, or work for the United States government, or perform research. You will become a United States citizen right away.

    A child of a Naturalized citizen may even bypass permanent Resident Status.

    You are eligible to apply for United States citizenship after five years if you are a Legal Permanent  Resident.  A Permanent Resident who is married to a United States citizen only needs three years.
